A Berliner Weisse is a traditional German wheat beer — naturally low in alcohol, bone-dry, and pleasantly sour, with a clean, thirst-quenching finish. On its own it's brilliant. Brewed with real fruit, it becomes something else entirely: a glass full of sunshine, sharp edges softened into something you could sip all afternoon.
At Zapato, we call ours Beaucoup Weisse. Each edition is brewed with a single seasonal fruit, allowed to do its thing in the tank, and canned at its peak. No syrups. No shortcuts. Just beer and fruit, working together.
They're approachable enough for someone who's never touched a sour beer, and interesting enough to keep seasoned drinkers coming back for more. We know — our Blackberry & Raspberry edition brought back more returning customers than almost anything else we've brewed.
What does it taste like?
Think of biting into a ripe piece of fruit on a warm day — that burst of juice, that brightness, followed by a gentle tartness that makes you go back for another sip. Beaucoup Weisse sits right in that moment. It's not sweet like a cider, not hoppy like a pale ale, and not heavy like a stout. It's its own thing: light, lively, and full of flavour.

Our current edition leads with plump, sun-ripened apricot — all velvet skin, stone-fruit sweetness, and that characteristic Berliner tartness underneath. The apricot doesn't hide; it pours into every sip, rounded off with the soft wheat base that makes this style so dangerously drinkable.
Serves brilliantly cold, straight from the can. Also worth trying alongside a soft cheese board, spiced food, or anything where a little brightness cuts through richness.

Tips for your first time
- Serve cold — straight from the fridge, between 3–5°C
- Use a wide glass if you have one — it opens up the aroma beautifully
- Don't be put off by 'sour' — Berliner Weisse is the mildest, most approachable sour style there is
- Pair it well — try it with salty snacks, soft cheese, spiced dishes, or just a sunny afternoon
